Watch out - about trading away reality (COP 15 issue)..
The Story of Cap & Trade from Story of Stuff Project on Vimeo.
The Story of Cap & Trade is a fast-paced, fact-filled, entertaining look at the leading climate solution being discussed at Copenhagen and on Capitol Hill. Host Annie Leonard introduces the people at the heart of this scheme - energy traders and Wall Street financiers. It then examines the “devils in the details” in current cap and trade proposals: free permits to big polluters, fake offsets and, distractions from what’s really required to tackle the climate crisis. Attitudes of Malmö - Collecting empirical knowledge.
This sequence is not a prayer for Malmö but a attempt to discuss elasticity or antielasticity regarding mechanisms of society. This is also a further step to find out what makes Malmö to Malmö.

Reconnecting land and people
Despite the qualities the inhabitans of countryside (the eco village near Oxie) have, regarding amount of space and green areas, they dont use the potential. This waste is in future mathers a dying dinosaur, or it should be.
Mother earth are whispering symptoms of sickness in our ears. Reconnecting land and people as a metaphor challenges authorities and the attitude of man to be aware of consequences by not change the way of living.
The need of sustainable solutions reaches beyond solar panels and foodforests. A sustainable developement of society is a complex point of departure into another rhisomatic system. A piece of this system could be a further look at the term mixed use. My focus will contain the attitude that densifying and expansion of Malmö is a truth for the future. In this mather the open gaps (no.1) are necesseraly threatened by developement. Progressive interventions and mixed use as focus will be my exercise.

5. The reinforcement has arrived. The sketch is

1. The situation to day. Mono use and
a surface with very few functions.
2. Mapping the obvious - antielasticity of space.
3. The process will grow from initiatives, probably
from bottom and up (example of AAA in Paris).

4. The focus area are huge. My gap is no longer
a smal issue - but concerning the whole society -
this as an example of interventions.
5. The reinforcement has arrived. The sketch is
showing layers of programs as a immediately
response.

::: Gesamtkunstwerk Malmö :::
R. Wagner introduced the term Gesamtkunstwerk as a performance that combines types of art. My interpretation of the term regards Malmö as a Gesamtkunstwerk. The startingpoint is a whole (holistic) that contain complex layers of meaning (pieces) and the task is to find qualities, partly, so it again can represent a even stronger and meaningful whole. There is no limitations of amount parts a Gesamtkunstwerk can contain. As I have mentioned before, parkour/free running is not a qualified element in itself and it appear as a response to the direction of society, so therefore I call it a symptom rather than a clear piece in the Gesamtkunstwerk. Robertos awareness of microcosmos and "signs" for understaning complexity of Malmö - is a approach that I mean is necessary to identify and understand Malmö as a Gesamtkunstwerk.
This will actually contain everything. The task is then about ceeping the right focus (glases). The gameboard Malmö has surfaces of different qualities. A drama emerge out of the gameboard and the interaction of lifeforms creates a whole. What is the components and what is the compound of the drama? What is the forces? To find out, I have to navigate in this forrest (Malmö as a rhisome) and make choices (Umberto Eco, Six Walks in the Fictional Woods). I have to find the "imbedded" pieces of the Gesamtkunstwerk - what makes Malmö to Malmö?
Analyzing a component (a area of questions, answers, data (1, 0), diversity (/, x, + and -) and movement across boundaries.
My interpretation of Malmö will be affected by my walk. The walk will discover crossconnections and maybe a impressions of what ingredient(s) that makes Malmö to Malmö.

Malmö is clear defined from its surroundings. The components have connections with other programs, the transitions will hopefully give some answers.

Parkour in Malmö.
Im realy impressed of this phenomenon. The parkour-people is very engaged on how they handle the challenge and how the body appear in the movement. Im very engaged of how a boring stair suddenly comes in to play - the content of the room and space get challenged by new patterns and paths - they are crossing mainstream in a way.
Check out the comments on the clips, and you will see what their focus is. The clip at the bottom is maybe one of the best oute there, but it is not from Malmö..

The Fairy Tale of the Green Snake and the Beautiful Lily - A rhizomestructure of meanings and metaphores
The Fairy Tale of the Green Snake and the Beautiful Lily is a piece of litterature that was relevant in the task of architectual history, these day - for me.You can read it if you want, only 54 A5 pages.. here.
A true fairy story is a work of art. In 1795, there appeared in the German magazine Die Horen (The Hours) a series of stories of which the concluding one was a Fairy Tale, The Green Snake and the Beautiful Lily. This tale tells of magical transformation, yet one which, when the time is ripe, can be experienced by every human being. The author of these stories was Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) and the creation of this Fairy Tale was to have far reaching consequences...
I have never ever read souch a fairy tail and got so overwhelmed by its underlying messages. It gives me a impression of a flow of pictures in my sensory dimension, and right after a flow of abstract sublime codes/messages/hints/education about life in the spiritual dimension. But nothing is clear.. I thing I will see this fairytale as a rhizome structure of dimensions to accept its complexity.
Many people have analyzed it and some have more credible interpretations than other..
"This Fairy Tale was written by Goethe as a response to a work of Schiller’s entitled Über die aesthetische Erziehung des Menschen (Letters on the Aesthetic Education of Man). One of the main thoughts considered in these ‘letters’ centred around the question of human freedom".
"But both Schiller and Goethe recognised that freedom cannot be ‘imposed’ from the outside but must arise from within each person. Whilst he had an artistic nature, Schiller was more at home in the realm of philosophic thoughts and although Goethe found much pleasure in these ‘Letters’ of Schiller, he felt that the approach concerning the forces in the soul was too simply stated and, it should be said, working in abstract ideas was not Goethe’s way. So he set about writing a Fairy Tale that would show, in imaginative pictures, the way in which a human soul could become whole and free, thereby giving rise to a new and free human community..."
I will actually talk more of this in a more general way. If you want to read a whole resyme of it you can do it her, but it is almost the same amount of text as the fairytail.. I see this as a dimension of the human existence written in a metaphoric way. It hits my internal system with messages that I have to interpret by my self. By compared it to a rhizomestructure I feel this could have some connections.
The equalityness is for me about; different regimes of signs. It always has a multiple way of notification going in any direction. It looks like it has a start and a end, but actually you are in the middle of somewhere, in your mind, in a philosophical methaphor written by Goethe.
I wil try to explain this experience for you tomorrow with these little sketches..

"Every schoolboy knows"
This is a phrase from the anthropologist Gregory Bateson who you may meet as a reference in our master studio.
This expression can be interpreted in such a way as every architect, every taxi driver, every kid now knows that global challenges has to be met with full innovative force on every local level, including the smallest biotope. Its an awareness in the air. This involves rethinking, research and new kinds of explorations in the urban field, thus conceived as both built up structures and the landscape. The city is under pressure and has to be redefined continuosly.
Yesterday we read and article by the researcher Maria Hellström, SLU/Alnarp/Malmø, titled The deverging common (Den avvikende allmenning) where she discusses Christiania in Copenhagen as representative of the urban non-ownership as a creative disturbance.
An eye and an ear to deviations, divergence and that you me see as important undercurants should inform our studio and enter the blog.
When the studio is going to explore change as opposed to limitless growth this joint blog for you students, us teachers and invited guests can bee conceived as a library, a library of change. This library of change is then formed by the participants and will act as a common Idea Universe, with a reference too the mosaic reading.
So the moral of this blog is to launch your findings here. The expression visualising change can be fine to have in mind. We look forward to meet you on the blog and in Bergen.
Forever yours
Kjerstin and Knut Eirik
